One-Off Event Volunteer (SHB Golf Day - The Grove Watford)

Opportunity image

More than 60,000 children in the UK have been diagnosed with a critical condition, changing their lives and the lives of their families forever. For them, the joy of childhood is brought to an abrupt end, with treatment, hospital appointments and sleepless nights taking over. The power of a wish revives a childhood stolen by critical illness. It brings light and joy to children and their loved ones and leaves a profound and lasting impact on all their lives. But we can’t be that light for everyone. Together, we have the power to #LightUpTheDarkness.

What will I be doing?

SHB Real Estate is hosting a Golf Day for their staff members in aid of Make-A-Wish. As a volunteer, your role will involve caddying for the players taking part. Caddies will be driving a buggy for the duration of the 18 holes. They will each have 4 players to look after (2 pairs) and they will record scores for all the players. It will be the caddy’s job (very important) to enter each player’s score on each hole into the digital scoring system on the buggy itself and the same scores onto a scorecard which is kept on the steering wheel of the buggy.

What are my core tasks?

Additionally to driving the golf buggy, your job will be to keep score for your players. You will do this by entering the player’s score into the digital scoring system on the buggy and a physical scorecard. The scoring is the most important job being asked of the caddy and all caddies need to be completely impartial.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for the following volunteers:

  • Smiley and fun!
  • Ability to use a card reader/sumup machine which will need to be connected to your mobile phone
  • Can drive a golf buggy
  • Some knowledge of golf is beneficial but it’s not a necessity
  • Can hang around for some networking, storytelling at the end of the event

How will I be supported?

We will ensure you have the training and tools required to deliver your role and will regularly be seeking your feedback to ensure that we can deliver the support you need. A full briefing on the rules and format of the day will be carried out on the morning of the event.

The event host can offer pick up from local stations, subject to availability.
